Our first stop in Guadeloupe was at Les Saintes.   We arrived January 13 after a very bumpy ride in 20 knot winds.   Here you can see the harbour beside the island "Pain du Sucre".   There is a pretty town - but very touristy as the cruise ships stop here regularly.   We checked in and headed to Pointe a Pitre the next day.
Half way to Pointe a Pitre we finally caught our first fish.   It was quite a fight but Ben reeled him in.   We think it's a Wahoo or a King Mackeral (they look pretty similar in the book).
Ben & Emma holding our supper.   At 31" and about 8 lbs. (we are guessing) he fed us for 2 days.
...to this 20 foot Hobie Cat!   This guy lived in his survival suit for 35 days as he crossed the Atlantic!
The Marina in Pointe a Pitre is the finish for the "Route de Rhum" race from France.   The boats varied from this 130 foot trimaran "Geronimo"......
Jean and Danielle arrived from New Liskeard and we spent a week with them on SOLID GROUND.   They rented a cottage from Marie The on the east coast of Gande Terre.
The beautiful pool at the "Domain de la vieux mole".
Lisa and Danielle at the local farmers market.
Emma checks out the original windmill at a nearby rum distillery.   They used wind power to squeeze the juice from the sugar cane.
Jean takes the helm for a day sail to Gosiers.
We climbed to the peak of La Soufriere - an "inactive" volcano on Basse Terre.   It was a little more exercise than we bargained for.   We climbed for 2 1/2 hours to 1400m elevation.   We were very lucky to have a clear day.   Most days the peak is shrouded in clouds.
After coming back down the mountain we couldn't wait to get in the hot springs to soak our sore muscles.
We took the ferry from Trois-Rivieres to Les Saintes for the day.   We climbed to Fort Napolean and saw these iguanas hiding in the bushes.   They look fierce but are supposedly vegetarians.
Jean and Danielle exploring the botanical garden in Fort Napolean.
Lisa at Fort Napolean.
Time for a swim at the Baie de Pompierre on Terre de Haut.   You can see Roches Percees in the background.
After a great day at Les Saintes, we head back to the ferry for Trois-Rivieres.
Next stop - Antigua!
