Dominica
Our next stop is the rainforest island of Dominica.   Formed by volcanoes it rises straight from the sea floor with virtually no flat areas.   Twenty-six feet of rain fall every year.   The island is covered with lush rainforest, over 300 rivers and countless waterfalls.   The water is crystal clear and the reefs are amazing.
Octavius (aka Sea Cat) took us for an island tour.   We tried to climb to the Victoria falls, but the steady rain caused the river to rise.   After a very hairy crossing we decided to bail out and explore another waterfall.
We met Moses in his shack along the riverside.   He cooked us a "Rasta Lunch" (all vegetarian).   It was delicious!
We met Lynda from Toronto.   She owns a small guesthouse on the south coast - the Zandoli Inn.   We had a look around and decided that we'll have to come back here again someday!
The island has hundreds of abandoned plantations.   Because of the difficult terrain the farmers have difficulty competing.   We were able to stop and pick oranges, grapefruit, pineapples, and lemons along the side of the road.
Between dives at the marine reserve we relaxed in a natural "hot tub" fed by hot water from the nearby volcano.
Swimming under a waterfall at the Emerald Pool.
The skeleton of a sperm whale on display at the Anchorage Dive Shop.   This whale washed up on the beach after being injured by a boat.   We didn't see any whales but a pod of dolphins followed our boat for about 10 minutes as we headed up the west coast of Dominica.
Some traditional transport for the steep terrain of Dominica.
Another amazing sunset.....
Next Stop - Guadeloupe.
